Tanner Laczynski, a senior forward on the Ohio State men’s hockey team, is one of 10 finalists for the 2020 Senior CLASS Award.

An alternate captain for the No. 12 Buckeyes, Laczynski is an All-America performer and Academic All-Big Ten honoree.

To be eligible for the award, student-athletes must be classified as NCAA Division I seniors and have notable achievements in four areas of excellence: community, classroom, character and competition. An acronym for Celebrating Loyalty and Achievement for Staying in School, the Senior CLASS Award focuses on the total student-athlete and encourages students to use their athletic platforms to make a positive impact as leaders in their communities.

The finalists were chosen by national media from the list of candidates announced last month. Nationwide fan voting begins immediately to help select the winner and fans are encouraged to submit votes online at the Senior CLASS Award website through March 30. Fan votes will be combined with those of the media and Division I head coaches to determine the winners. The Senior CLASS Award recipients will be announced during the 2020 NCAA Men’s Frozen Four.

The Shorewood, Ill., native is tied for second among current NCAA skaters with 136 career points, ranking second with 92 assists, tying for fifth with 1.03 points per game and tying for first with 12 game-winning goals.

Through thirty games, he leads the Buckeyes with 20 assists and 27 points, tying for sixth among Big Ten skaters in points and tying for third in assists.

Laczynski is also on the Hobey Baker Award fan vote ballot, with voting for the first round open through March 9.

A Philadelphia Flyers draft pick, Lacynski, earned Second Team All-America and First Team All-Big Ten honors in 2018 and was an honorable mention All-Big Ten selection in 2019. He has also earned NCAA Tournament All-Midwest Regional and Big Ten All-Tournament team accolades.

In the classroom, Laczynski is a four-time Ohio State Scholar-Athlete and is expected to earn Academic All-Big Ten honors for the third time in as many opportunities this spring. He is slated to earn his degree in sport industry at the end of the semester.

Laczynski is the third Buckeye to be a Top 10 finalist for the Senior CLASS Award, joining Sasha Larocque (2019) and Sean Duddy (2012).
