Availability Report: Will Kacmarek, Lathan Ransom Out For Nebraska Game

By October 26, 2024 (9:00 am)Football

After a 32-31 loss to Oregon on Oct. 12 in which multiple Ohio State players were injured, the Buckeyes will be without tight end Will Kacmarek and safety Lathan Ransom Saturday against Nebraska.

Kacmarek was injured against the Ducks on the first drive of the game when he brought in a 32-yard catch and didn’t return to action the rest of the day.

Ransom has dealt with many injuries in his long Buckeye career, but head coach Ryan Day said on Wednesday that the one keeping him out against the Cornhuskers isn’t long-term.

The tight end room has seen a constant rotation with each of Gee Scott Jr., Jelani Thurman, Bennett Christian and Pat Gurd getting time this season, and that rotation will continue in Kacmarek’s absence. Replacing Ransom could be sophomore Malik Hartford, who got some game time last season, or true freshman Jaylen McClain or some rotation between the two of them.

Josh Simmons is also newly on the injury report after suffering a season-ending injury in the game against Oregon. Zen Michalski will replace him to start at left tackle, but Day did float the idea of trying other options out if the Buckeyes need to, like moving Donovan Jackson or Tegra Tshabola from their respective guard positions.

Also out for the game are freshman cornerback Aaron Scott, walk-on wide receiver Reis Stocksdale and running back TC Caffey, who is also out for the season.
