Baseball: Ohio State Moving On From Greg Beals After 12 Years
Ohio State will move on from Greg Beals as head coach of the baseball team, a program spokesperson confirmed to BSB on Monday. Beals spent the last 12 seasons with the Buckeyes and guided them to three NCAA Tournament appearances.
Beals went 346-288-1 as Ohio State’s head coach with a 141-139 record in the Big Ten. In his tenure, the Buckeyes competed in eight Big Ten tournaments and won tournament championships in 2016 and 2019. They advanced to NCAA Regionals in 2016 in Louisville, Ky., in 2018 in Greenville, S.C. and in 2019 in Nashville.
Ohio State went 21-30 (.412) in 2022 with an 8-14 mark in conference competition. The Buckeyes only finished in front of Minnesota and Michigan State in the Big Ten standings.
A press release from the Ohio State athletic department revealed that athletic director Gene Smith and other faculty members will begin a search for his successor immediately.
