After Ohio State baseball’s series finale against West Virginia was canceled due to inclement weather in Morgantown, the program added a home contest with Marshall on Monday that will serve as its home opener.
The Buckeyes initially anticipated their first home game to be against Wright State on March 22. However, when the weather forced the team to cancel its final matchup with the Mountaineers, head coach Greg Beals looked for another opponent. Marshall’s series finale with Merrimack was also canceled due to West Virginia’s heavy rain and thunderstorms, making them a fitting partner for a makeup game.
Ohio State and Marshall faced each other on Feb. 18 in Port Charlotte, Fla. The Buckeyes scored eight runs in the bottom of the fifth, rolling to a 15-4 opening day victory. Drew Reckart went 4-for-5 with a pair of home runs while freshman Trey Lipsey connected on a grand slam, which was also his first career hit.
The first pitch will take place at 4:05 p.m. from Nick Swisher Field at Bill Davis Stadium.
