Baseball: Weekend Series Vs. Minnesota Postponed
Ohio State won’t take to the diamond this weekend as originally planned because of a COVID-related issue within the Minnesota baseball program, according to statements from both Ohio State and Minnesota.
“The baseball series between Minnesota and Ohio State scheduled for May 7-9 in Minneapolis has been postponed,” an Ohio State statement reads. “The decision was mutually agreed upon by both teams due to COVID health and safety concerns within the Minnesota program.”
According to the Minnesota statement, “the institutions will work with the conference to identify rescheduling options should a window become available prior to the end of the regular season.”
It appears that there would be a potential window, given the lack of a Big Ten tournament at the end of this season.
This is Ohio State’s first run in with the virus this season, as it has managed to play every series up to this one and hasn’t reported any major COVID issues. This is a tough series to lose for the 17-14 Buckeyes, who are on the hunt for wins and could have looked to sweep the 4-26 Golden Gophers. Rescheduling later in the season could be crucial to a potential postseason berth for Ohio State.
