Ohio State offensive coordinator and wide receivers coach Brian Hartline was hospitalized early Sunday morning after sustaining non-life threatening injuries in a UTV accident, according to a statement from the program.
Hartline and a friend unaffiliated with Ohio State were transported to Riverside Hospital early on Sunday morning, and Hartline has since tweeted that he is “doing well” after the accident. According to Bill Rabinowitz of The Columbus Dispatch, Hartline was released from the hospital Monday afternoon.
According to a report released Monday by the Delaware County Sheriff’s Office, police were dispatched to Hartline’s home near Powell, Ohio, at approximately 1:22 a.m. on Sunday morning. Hartline was the driver of the utility vehicle side-by-side involved in the crash that rolled over, and the report said Hartline admitted to drinking prior to the accident.
The report listed a potential charge of driving while under the influence, but no charges have been filed as of Monday afternoon.
The accident came just hours after Hartline called plays in Ohio State’s Spring Game on Saturday, his first opportunity to call plays ahead of his first season as Ohio State’s offensive coordinator. Hartline earned the promotion this offseason after five seasons as the Buckeyes’ wide receivers coach.
