After going undrafted in the 2023 NFL Draft, former Ohio State cornerback Cameron Brown signed an undrafted free agent deal with the Los Angeles Chargers, the team announced Saturday.
A four-star prospect out of St. Louis Christian Brothers College Prep, Brown boasted skills both as a wide receiver and cornerback but was ultimately tabbed to play on the defensive side of the ball for Ohio State.
Brown appeared in five games as a true freshman before a leg injury knocked him out of the rest of the campaign, but he played in all 14 games — collecting 14 tackles and a pass breakup — for the Buckeyes as a true sophomore in 2019.
The injury bug reared its ugly head again in 2020 after Brown tore his Achilles in the closing minutes of Ohio State’s 38-25 win over Penn State in Week 2, holding him out for the rest of the COVID-shortened season. Again, Brown bounced back by appearing in 10 games — including his first-career start against the following season, and collecting career-highs in tackles (24) and pass breakups (eight) while corraling his lone career interception in a 33-24 win over the Nittany Lions on Oct. 30, 2021.
Brown settled into a weekly starting role in 2022, but again, injuries knocked those plans off of course. He started in all eight games he appeared in, missing five games, while collecting 14 tackles and five pass breakups.
He is the third member of Ohio State’s secondary to sign with a team as an undrafted free agent, joining safeties Ronnie Hickman and Tanner McCalister, who both signed with the Cleveland Browns.
