Ohio State women’s tennis senior Irina Cantos Siemers was named the 2023 BIg Ten Women’s Tennis Athlete of the Year Wednesday, the fourth Buckeye to take home such an honor.
Cantos Siemers has posted an overall record of 20-9 on the season with a perfect 6-0 mark in conference play, leading OSU to a second-place finish in the Big Ten’s regular season standings and 18-6 overall record as it currently stands. She is ranked 20th in the nation among singles players — the highest of anyone in the Big Ten — and Ohio State’s team is ranked 10th.
She’s also enjoyed a perfect 5-0 record in doubles matches, rolling through three different partners.
Cantos Siemers and sophomore Sydni Ratliff, the other Buckeye to receive Big Ten honors Wednesday when she was named to the All-Big Ten team, are the No. 33 doubles pairing in the country.
The Player of the Year selection is another honor to add to a growing list for Cantos Siemers on her OSU career. Holding a record of 91-34 during her time in Columbus, she’s a two-time All-American and a three-time unanimous selection to the All-Big Ten team.
Cantos Siemers earned her bachelor’s degree in communication from Ohio State in December and made Academic All-Big Ten in 2023.
