After several days of tryouts in Colorado Springs, Colo., Ohio State sophomore forward Cotie McMahon was announced as a member of the USA Women’s U19 National Team that will compete for a gold medal this summer.
The FIBA U19 Women’s World Cup will be played in Madrid, Spain, from July 15-23. The USA is in Group B, along with Chinese Taipei, Germany and Mali. The USA is 4-0 against Mali and defeated Germany in their only matchup in 2019, while the USA has yet to play Chinese Taipei.
McMahon is one of 12 players on the roster along with Madison Booker (Texas), Aaliyah Del Rosario (LSU), Jadyn Donovan (Duke), Joyce Edwards, Hannah Hidalgo (Notre Dame), Londynn Jones (UCLA), Chloe Kitts (South Carolina), Talana Lepolo (Stanford), Kiki Rice (UCLA), Grace VanSlooten (Oregon) and Allie Ziebell. The USA’s head coach is Joni Taylor (Texas A&M), with DeLisha Milton-Jones (Old Dominion) and Teri Moren (Indiana) serving as assistant coaches.
McMahon was on last year’s USA Women’s U18 National Team, helping lead the United States to a gold medal in Buenos Aires, Argentina, and now she’ll go for her second gold medal in as many offseasons. The USA has won the gold medal in eight of the last nine World Cups and in each of the last two.
