Junior forward Cotie McMahon added to her list of preseason recognition on Monday when she was named to the Naismith Watch List, given to the Women’s College Player of the Year.
In the 2022–23 season, McMahon was one of the best freshmen in the country, averaging 15.1 points per game on 51 percent shooting with 5.5 rebounds and 2.4 assists. Following the 2022-23 season, McMahon was named the Big Ten Freshman of the Year and was included on the All-Big Ten Second Team.
McMahon was just as reliable as a sophomore on a Big Ten regular-season champion Ohio State team. Her shooting numbers were slightly down in 2023-24, where she shot 46 percent from the field and scored 14.4 points per game, but McMahon improved her rebounding numbers, as she recorded 6.3 rebounds per game.
On a team without someone like former standout Ohio State guard Jacy Sheldon and several new faces, McMahon, who was also named to the preseason All-Big Ten team in September, will likely take an even greater role in the 2024-25 season.
