Ohio State junior forward Cotie McMahon was named to the Los Angeles Athletic Club’s John R. Wooden Late Midseason Top 20 Watch List on Tuesday and also the Naismith Trophy Women’s College Player of the Year Midseason Team on Wednesday.
In her third season with Ohio State, McMahon has been the steady force of a Buckeye team with three first-year starters. In 19 games, McMahon has averaged a team-high 16.2 points per game, 4.7 rebounds and 2.2 assists, while shooting 42.2 percent from the field and a career-high 31.7 percent from 3-point range.
McMahon has scored at least 10 points in all but two of the games she has played in and has scored at least 20 points in four games this season.
McMahon, who also was a top 10 finalist for the Cheryl Miller award, given to the nation’s best small forward, on Feb. 5, was joined on the Wooden watch list by UCLA center Lauren Betts, UConn guard Paige Bueckers and USC guard JuJu Watkins among several others.
If McMahon wins the Wooden Award, given to the nation’s most outstanding player, she will be honored on April 11 at the Los Angeles Athletic Club.
The Naismith Trophy Midseason Team, which included 30 total players featured Bueckers, Betts and Watkins, but also included Big Ten players like UCLA guard Kiki Rice and USC forward Kiki Iriafen, who were not on the Wooden Late Midseason Watch List.
The Naismith Women’s College Player of the Year will be announced on April 2.
