Defensive End Mitchell Melton Enters Transfer Portal

By January 5, 2025 (8:10 pm)Football

Ohio State defensive end Mitchell Melton is entering the transfer portal to find another team to play for in his final season of eligibility.

Melton originally came to Ohio State as a linebacker, but made the transition to the edge during two seasons of sitting out with major injuries in 2021 and 2022. With the depth the Buckeyes have at the position, he hasn’t been able to find much playing time this season and he would likely still have to serve as a backup next season with how the depth chart looks like it will shape up.

This season, he has 12 total tackles and two sacks and will now take his talents elsewhere. Whether he will remain with the team for the remainder of the College Football Playoff is yet to be seen.

With both Melton and tight end Pat Gurd deciding on Sunday that they would be leaving, Ohio State has now had 11 players decide to enter the portal.
