The 6-3 3/8, 231-pound Haskins was a Heisman Trophy finalist last season, as he threw for 4,831 yards and 50 touchdowns compared to just eight interceptions. He set 28 school records and seven Big Ten records in 2018, including single-season passing yards, single-season touchdown passes and career passing efficiency (173.98).
Haskins garnered third-team Associated Press All-American honors, won the Chicago Tribune’s Silver Football award and was named the Big Ten’s offensive player and quarterback of the year after leading the Buckeyes a conference championship and a victory in the Rose Bowl.
A four-star recruit from Potomac (Mary.) Bullis School, Haskins becomes first Big Ten quarterback to be selected in the first round since former Penn State signal caller Kerry Collins in 1995. In that time, 61 quarterbacks from 42 different schools have been taken among the first 32 picks.
