Get to know Houston North Shore five-star cornerback Devin Sanchez, who signed with the Buckeyes on Wednesday.
Height, Weight: 6-2, 170
247Sports Composite Ranking: Sanchez is the nation’s sixth-best overall prospect, top-rated cornerback and No. 3 player out of Texas.
Commitment Date: Sanchez committed to Ohio State on Jan. 6.
Other Offers: Alabama, Auburn, Colorado, Florida State, Georgia, LSU, Miami (Fla.), Michigan, Oklahoma, Ole Miss, Oregon, Penn State, Texas.
How He Did In High School: Sanchez helped lead North Shore to its 10th consecutive regional championship game appearance this season while starting at cornerback for the third straight season with the team. He combined for 57 tackles, 29 pass deflections, two forced fumbles and nine interceptions from 2022-23, and did enough this year to earn him an invite to the Navy All-American Bowl this winter.
Where He Fits For 2024: Ohio State is experiencing a mass exodus at the cornerback position this offseason, with seniors Denzel Burke and Jordan Hancock exhausting their collegiate eligibility and junior starter Davison Igbinosun also possibly departing for the NFL. This leaves a massive void at the position that Sanchez can potentially fill with a superb spring and fall camp, but he will be competing for playing time with more seasoned players such as Lorenzo Styles Jr., Jermaine Mathews Jr. and Aaron Scott, among others. Sanchez will have to earn his stripes before he gets a chance to play significant minutes, but the window is there for him to do so.
