Early Signing Period: Five-Star Quarterback Tavien St. Clair Signs With Ohio State

Get to know Bellefontaine, Ohio, five-star quarterback Tavien St. Clair, who signed with Ohio State on Wednesday.

Height, Weight: 6-4, 225

247Sports Composite Rankings: St. Clair is rated the No. 7 overall player in the country and the No. 3 quarterback. He is the top-rated player in the state of Ohio.

Commitment Date: St. Clair committed to Ohio State on June, 21, 2023.

Other Offers: Alabama, Cincinnati, Florida, Illinois, Indiana, LSU, Michigan, Michigan State, Minnesota, Penn State, Pittsburgh, Tennessee, West Virginia.

How He Did In High School: He is a finalist for Ohio’s Mr. Football after his senior season and will find out whether he is going to take that honor home on Friday. He broke a school record with 3,983 passing yards his junior season, completing over 70 percent of his passes and throwing 37 touchdowns and eight interceptions, also running for 352 yards and four scores on the ground.

He finished his senior season with 2,536 passing yards, 29 touchdowns and just four interceptions while adding 254 yards and nine more touchdowns on the ground.

Where He Fits For 2025: Will Howard has no more college eligibility remaining after this season, so the position is going to be wide open for the taking. Of course it’s going to be extremely difficult for a true freshman to win the starting quarterback job at Ohio State, and its not at all likely, but if Devin Brown and Lincoln Kienholz enter the transfer portal, which wouldn’t be surprising.

There will likely be backup time for St. Clair next year at some pointbehind whoever wins the starting job. But with two five-star 2024 quarterbacks ahead of him in the room, it is going to be a battle for any playing time.
