Ohio State defensive lineman coach Larry Johnson’s day just got a bit better, as Philadelphia St. Joseph’s Prep four-star defensive lineman Maxwell Roy signed with the Buckeyes on Wednesday.
Height, Weight: 6-3, 285
247Sports Composite Rankings: Roy is considered the nation’s 343rd-ranked prospect, the No. 36 overall defensive lineman and 10th-ranked player in Pennsylvania.
Commitment Date: Roy has been committed to Ohio State since July 1, 2024.
Other Offers: Michigan, Rutgers, Boston College, Georgia, Penn State, Oregon, Pittsburgh, Tennessee, USC, Wisconsin, Duke.
How He Did In High School: Roy also played offensive guard for the Hawks throughout his high school career, helping St. Joseph’s to a 13-1 record in 2023 while capturing the PIAA 6A state championship.
Where He Fits For 2025: Roy could be an immediate impact type of player for Ohio State early on should he gain some weight to help boost the interior of the Buckeyes’ defensive line as a run support option. Described as a “good-sized, broad-shouldered down defensive lineman” by Gabe Brooks of 247Sports, Roy has all the intangibles to be a freshman contributor for Ohio State in 2025.
