Get to know Toledo Whitmer four-star offensive tackle Carter Lowe, who signed with the Buckeyes on Wednesday.
Height, Weight: 6-5, 290
247Sports Composite Ranking: Lowe is the nation’s 60th-best prospect, ninth-best offensive tackle and No. 4 player out of Ohio.
Commitment Date: Lowe committed to Ohio State on Jan. 27.
Other Offers: Auburn, Cincinnati, Clemson, Florida, Florida State, Georgia, Kentucky, Michigan, Michigan State, Penn State, Pittsburgh, Tennessee. Texas A&M, West Virginia, Wisconsin.
How He Did In High School: Lowe helped lead Toledo Whitmer to a Division I regional quarterfinal appearance his senior year by serving as an anchor on the Panthers offensive line at left tackle. He earned a reputation as a versatile and athletic offensive lineman who can both play on the outside and inside, and he also excelled in both basketball and track and field, throwing a junior-year best 48-8 shot put rep in spring of 2023.
Where He Fits For 2024: Lowe is by far the highest-rated offensive lineman in Ohio State’s 2025 class and for good reason, as his unique athleticism and mobility allow him to play tackle at an elite level. These raw traits could bode well for him his freshman season, as does the mass exodus Ohio State is likely experiencing at the tackle position this season, with Josh Simmons, Donovan Jackson — who played left tackle at the end of the year — and Josh Fryar all leaving or likely leaving for the NFL. With Ohio State’s offensive line being a bit thin next year, Lowe could very well compete for a starting left tackle job his freshman season alongside sophomore Deontae Armstrong and potentially some others, although he will certainly have to work for it as soon as he arrives at the Woody Hayes Athletic Center.
