Get to know Onley (Md.) Our Lady Good Counsel four-star safety Faheem Delane, who signed with the Buckeyes on Wednesday.
Height, Weight: 6-3, 195
247Sports Composite Ranking: Delane is the nation’s 50th-best overall prospect, eighth-best safety and No. 2 player out of Maryland.
Commitment Date: Delane committed to Ohio State on June 9.
Other Offers: Alabama, Auburn, Cincinnati, Colorado, Florida, Florida State, Georgia, LSU, Maryland, Miami (Fla.), Michigan, Oregon, Penn State, Tennessee, Texas.
How He Did In High School: Delane was all over the field for the Falcons his senior year, earning 97 total tackles, three interceptions, two sacks and one forced fumble. He also helped Good Counsel win a Washington Catholic Athletic Conference championship in 2023 by totaling 69 tackles and 19 pass deflections.
Where He Fits For 2024: Delane’s defensive versatility and physical frame makes him an intriguing fit for Jim Knowles’ safety-driven defense next season, but he will still likely be limited to a reserve role at safety his freshman year with superstar Caleb Downs returning to lead the unit. Lathan Ransom is leaving at the bandit position, but his physical tools may make him fit more as an adjuster, putting him in a likely backup role to start his Buckeye career behind Downs and maybe some others.
