Ohio State lost its lone defensive commitment in the 2025 recruiting class, one of the nation’s best junior safeties.
Atlanta Douglass five-star safety Jontae Gilbert (6-1, 175) announced via Twitter Saturday that he’d be reopening his recruitment a year to the day after he committed to the Buckeyes.
Gilbert is the No. 25 prospect in the 2025 class per the 247Sports composite rankings, the nation’s No. 2 safety and the sixth-best prospect out of Georgia.
He originally pledged his services to the Buckeyes on July 29, 2022, nearly 11 months prior to Ohio State’s second — and now only — pledge in the class of 2025 joined the fold, that being Bellefontaine, Ohio four-star quarterback Tavien St. Clair (6-4, 210).
South Carolina appears to be a leader for Gilbert’s services, as he recently took a trip to Columbia, S.C. for a visit there, as well as Georgia Tech.
