The NFL has been handing down a lot of gambling suspensions in the past year as players have violated policy by either betting on NFL games or betting at team facilities. Thursday, two former Buckeyes were caught up in the latest round of suspensions.
Former Ohio State tight end Rashod Berry, who now plays defensive end for the Indianapolis Colts, picked up a year-long suspension for betting on NFL games. Former Ohio State and current Tennessee Titans offensive tackle Nicholas Petit-Frere will be forced to sit out six games for betting on other sports at team facilities.
Berry hasn’t played in an NFL game since 2021, when he was still a tight end for the Detroit Lions, but did play for the Jacksonville Jaguars’ practice squad in 2022. The Colts claimed him off waivers following the season, but a year-long suspension puts any career ambitions on hold, at the very least.
Petit-Frere got the lesser of the two suspensions and has a more secure place in the league, starting 16 games in his rookie season with the Titans after being selected by them in the third round of the 2022 NFL Draft.
The Titans have an off-week in week seven, so Petit-Frere will be eligible to return in the team’s week eight game against the Atlanta Falcons.
