Former Duquesne All-Conference Linebacker Ty Howard Commits To Ohio State

Ohio State added a depth piece to its linebacker corps through the transfer portal on Sunday, as former Duquesne linebacker Ty Howard announced he has signed with the Buckeyes with two seasons of eligibility remaining.

Howard, a Cleveland native and product of Cleveland Villa Angela-St. Joseph, is the older brother of incoming freshman running back Bo Jackson.

The native Ohioan is coming off a strong junior season with the Dukes where he recorded an impressive 52 tackles, seven tackles for loss, four sacks, three interceptions, two quarterbacks, a fumble recovery and one pass breakup in just nine games. That stat line earned him first-team All-Northeast Conference honors.

Ohio State has not officially announced the signing of Howard, but Villa Angela-St. Joseph head coach Jeff Rotsky told Eleven Warriors that his former player is indeed signing with the Buckeyes.

Howard will join a talented Ohio State linebacker group next season that could still be led by current junior Sonny Styles, who told the media on Sunday that he has not made a decision on his football future yet. With Cody Simon leaving for the NFL this offseason, Arvell Reese will likely slide into his starting spot, with C.J. Hicks, Payton Pierce and Garrett Stover likely serving as depth pieces.

Incoming freshmen Tarvos Alford, Riley Pettijohn and Eli Lee could also compete with Howard in the unit next season.
