Ohio State made an addition to its 2025 roster late on Wednesday, with defensive end Beau Atkinson committing to the Buckeyes out of the transfer portal.
Atkinson visited Ohio State on Monday and decided to go with the Buckeyes over Georgia and South Carolina. He is the first commitment from the spring transfer portal for Ohio State to this point.
In the 2024 season with the Tar Heels, Atkinson had 35 tackles, 12 for loss and 7.5 sacks, the best season of his three years at UNC. He totaled 54 tackles, 16.5 for loss and 11 sacks, taking a redshirt season in 2022 when he arrived in Chapel Hill.
He joins a defensive end group that has Kenyatta Jackson Jr. and Caden Curry as the presumed starters as well as transfer Logan George and C.J. Hicks, who made the switch this offseason from linebacker. Atkinson could add to that room, or if defensive line coach Larry Johnson believes he could contribute as depth on the interior, it’s possible he could make the switch with his 6-6, 265-pound build.
The Buckeyes are still looking for more in the spring portal outside of Atkinson on the defensive line with former defensive tackle Troy Pikes scheduling a visit to Columbus on Friday.
