Former Ohio State Cornerback Ryan Watts Transferring To Texas
Former Ohio State cornerback Ryan Watts announced Wednesday night that he would become a Longhorn next season, joining former quarterback Quinn Ewers as the second Buckeye to announce he will play for Texas after transferring out of Columbus.
Watts is returning to his home state. He is a product of Little Elm High School — 2022 four-star cornerback Terrance Brooks attended the same high school and signed with Texas during last week’s early signing period after flipping from Ohio State.
Watts entered the transfer portal on Dec. 10, leaving Ohio State after two seasons. He recorded 10 total tackles and one interception in limited action. Most of his playing time came as a reserve. However, Watts did start in place of cornerbacks Cameron Brown and Sevyn Banks were both sidelined by injuries.
The 6-3, 205-pound Watts would likely have remained a backup in 2022 had he stayed at Ohio State. With Denzel Burke and Brown returning to start at cornerback, Watts undoubtedly transferred to Texas with hopes to contribute in a more significant role for the Longhorns.
