Former Ohio State Forward Jamison Battle Competes In Hanes Men’s 3-Point Championship
Former Ohio State forward Jamison Battle represented the Scarlet and Gray one final time in front of a national audience on Thursday night, competing in the Hanes Men’s 3-Point Championship held at Grand Canyon University’s Credit Union Arena in Phoenix, Ariz.
Battle, who led the Buckeyes and ranked second in the Big Ten in three-point field goal percentage at 43.3 percent (91 of 210), reached the semifinals of the contest which featured three rounds and eight contestants, ultimately falling to eventual winner and Nebraska guard Keisiei Tominaga on the final shot of the round.
Battle set the tone early with a strong showing in the first round. Shooting first in the contest alongside Northwestern’s Boo Buie, who led the Big Ten this season in three-point field goal percentage at 43.4 percent, Battle earned 23 out of the possible 30 points by connecting on 18 of his 25 three-point attempts. He hit each of his five two-point “moneyball” shots and was 5-for-5 on the fourth rack.
Battle’s score was second behind only Tominaga’s 25, allowing him to advance to the second round alongside Buie, Tominaga and Hofstra’s Tyler Thomas.
Battle then put up another strong performance in the semifinals. Facing off against the Nebraska sharpshooter, the former Buckeye again put up 23 points. But it was ultimately not enough for him to squeak past Tominaga, as the forward missed the final moneyball shot, allowing Tominaga to hit his final two-point attempt as the clock expired to advance to the championship round.
