No player in the history of the WNBA has scored more points in a single season than Kelsey Mitchell has this year. The former Buckeye broke the league’s all-time scoring record with a 33-point performance in her team’s 103-85 win over the Toronto Tempo on Friday.

Mitchell needed 20 points to break WNBA legend Aja Wilson’s all-time single-season scoring record of 1,021 points, and she was able to surpass that with a three-pointer in the third quarter.

Mitchell, who played for Ohio State from 2014-18, is having a career-best season for the Fever. She is averaging 25.2 points, 2.8 assists and 1.7 rebounds per game while shooting 51.8 percent from the field and 46.6 percent from three-point range.

Mitchell, who is currently playing as well as any player in the league, had one of her best games of the season against the Tempo. She scored 33 points, shooting 12-17 from the field and 7-11 from three-point range. She added two rebounds, two assists and two steals.

Mitchell is the big reason why the Fever are a title-contender. She’s helped lead the Fever to a 27-14 record, which is only four games behind first place.
