After being waived by the Indiana Fever prior to the beginning of the 2023 WNBA season, former Ohio State guard Taylor Mikesell has found a new home within the league, signing with the Atlanta Dream on Monday.
Mikesell was selected with the No. 13 overall pick by the Fever in the 2023 WNBA Draft on April 10 and spent the preseason with Indiana until she was waived on May 17, just two days before the beginning of the season.
While with the Buckeyes, Mikesell emerged as one of the nation’s best shooters, connecting on 44.2 percent of her 520 three-point attempts across a pair of seasons in Columbus. She was integral in a couple of deep NCAA Tournament runs for the Buckeyes, helping Ohio State reach the Sweet 16 in 2022 and Elite Eight in 2023, while averaging 17.9 points and 3.1 rebounds per game in that span.
Mikesell landed on a pair of All-Big Ten First Teams with the Buckeyes, while setting the program record for career free-throw percentage (87.8 percent). Mikesell also left Ohio State with the second-best career three-point percentage (44.2 percent) and was fourth in three-pointers made with 230.
Prior to joining the Buckeyes, Mikesell spent two seasons at Maryland and one season at Oregon, averaging 11.5 points and 2.6 assists while shooting 40.0 percent from deep during the three-year span. Mikesell was the Big Ten’s Rookie of the Year in 2018-19 while with the Terrapins.
Mikesell now joins an Atlanta Dream team that has gotten off to a 2-3 start to the campaign, sitting at eighth in the WNBA standings. She will likely help the Dream’s perimeter offense, which ranks sixth in three-pointers made (7.8 per game) and three-point percentage (34.8 percent).
