Former Ohio State Kicker Mike Nugent Signs With New England Patriots
Ohio State’s all-time points leader has found another spot in the NFL.
Following the season-ending left hip injury to New England kicker Stephen Gotskowski, the Patriots have signed former Buckeye and long-time veteran Mike Nugent to replace him, according to ESPN’s Adam Schefter.

Nugent, now 37, was set to be the kicker for the Oakland Raiders in 2018, and got off to a good start, making all six of his field goal attempts with a long of 52 yards, but he suffered a hip injury that ended his year early.
While at Ohio State, Nugent made 72 of his 88 field goal attempts, and add 140 extra points to it and his 356 career points puts him at No. 1 in the program’s history.
Nugent was unprecedentedly drafted in the second round of the 2005 NFL Draft, going No. 47 overall to the New York Jets. He spent four seasons with the Jets, but had most of his success with the Cincinnati Bengals, starting there for six straight seasons.
Though Nugent is expected to be the starter, the Patriots also signed former Los Angeles Chargers kicker Younghoe Koo to their practice squad.
