Former Ohio State linebacker Steele Chambers signed with the Detroit Lions as an undrafted free agent after not hearing his name called in the 2024 NFL draft.
Chambers recently completed his fifth season at Ohio State, starting the last three for the Buckeyes alongside Tommy Eichenberg. Chambers totaled 190 tackles (11.5 for loss), two sacks, three interceptions and eight pass breakups across his five seasons, including a career-high 83 tackles this past season in 13 games.
While Chambers impressed at linebacker by the time his career at Ohio State concluded, including a third-team All-Big Ten honor this past season, he began his career as a running back out of Roswell, Ga., during his first two seasons, rushing for 221 yards and a touchdown. But he made the switch to linebacker ahead of the 2021 season and has not looked back, and has started every game for the Buckeyes at linebacker dating back to the final four games of 2021.
Chambers is one of five Buckeyes who weren’t selected in the draft along with safety Josh Proctor, offensive lineman Matthew Jones, running back Miyan Williams and wide receiver Xavier Johnson, who is signing with the Buffalo Bills.
Now Chambers will have a chance over the offseason and during training camp to impress his new team so that he can hope to make the Lions roster.
