Former Ohio State offensive lineman Jonah Jackson was traded from the Los Angeles Rams to the Chicago Bears on Tuesday in exchange for a 2025 sixth-round NFL draft pick, according to ESPN’s Courtney Cronin. He will make $17.5 million in salary this season, and the Bears are taking on his contract, per ESPN’s Adam Schefter.
Jackson is dealt to Chicago just one offseason after signing a three-year, $51 million contract with the Rams that included $34 million guaranteed. He experienced a tumultuous one season in Los Angeles, as he started just four games for the franchise after suffering a shoulder injury and moving positions from left guard to center and was ultimately benched for rookie Beaux Limmer.
Now Jackson will likely return to his natural guard position for Chicago while reuniting with former Detroit Lions offensive coordinator and current Bears head coach Ben Johnson, who was on staff for each of Jackson’s four seasons with Detroit (2020-23), including the last two as his offensive coordinator.
Jackson played an integral role in the Lions’ franchise resurgence under head coach Dan Campbell by starting 57 games for the team at right guard from 2020-23, earning a Pro Bowl nod after the 2021 season. He also started 11 games at right guard in his lone season at Ohio State in 2019, earning honorable mention All-Big Ten honors that year.
