Former Ohio State Tight End Nick Vannett Signs Free Agent Deal With Tennessee Titans

Former Ohio State tight end Nick Vannett has found a new home in the NFL, signing on Monday a free agent contract with the Tennessee Titans after completing a visit with the franchise.

Tennessee will be the eighth NFL team Vannett has played for in his first nine professional seasons. After being released by the Houston Texans last preseason, Vannett spent the 2023 campaign with the Los Angeles Chargers, making five starts in eight games and catching just one pass for three yards.

Before his stint in Los Angeles, Vannett spent time with the New York Giants (2022), New Orleans Saints (2021-22), Denver Broncos (2020), Pittbsurgh Steeelrs (2019) and Seattle Seahawks (2016-19). He made his biggest mark with the Seahawks — the franchise that drafted him out of Ohio State with the 94th overall pick in the third round in 2016 — hauling in 48 catches for 463 yards and four touchdowns in 42 games, including 16 starts.

Vannett has made 43 starts across his first eight seasons in the NFL, catching 91 passes for 977 yards and six touchdowns.

Vannett, a Westerville, Ohio, native, played four seasons at Ohio State from 2012-15, totaling 55 receptions for 585 yards and six touchdowns.

He was an integral part of the Buckeyes’ National Championship season in 2014, serving as the top producing tight end that year and hauling in a one-yard touchdown pass in the first quarter of the Buckeyes’ National Championship Game win over Oregon.

Now, the former Buckeye will have another opportunity to continue his professional career on a Titans tight end room that is led this season by Chig Okonkwo and Josh Whyle. Vannett will likely carve out a role as a run-blocker for Tennessee while also potentially appearing on special teams.
