Former Ohio State wide receiver Corey Smith Jr. was arrested on Wednesday for violating his parole.
The 31-year-old Smith was taken into custody by the U.S. Marshals Service’s Fugitive Apprehension Team in Columbus on Wednesday morning.
According to a spokesperson for the marshals service, officers initially knocked on the door of the home Smith was in. Smith answered the door then shut it on the officers before he ran to the attic where he was ultimately arrested.
The marshals office said that Smith is wanted for a federal probation violation in West Virginia and failure to appear in court for a 2018 aggravated robbery charge.
In March of 2021, Smith was sentenced to 57 months in prison for his role in a drug distribution ring with ties to both Ohio and West Virginia. He pleaded guilty then to one count of aiding and abetting possession with intent to distribute 50 grams or more of methamphetamine.
Smith, who was at Ohio State from 2013-16, was part of the 2014 team that won the national championship, finishing his career with the Buckeyes with 31 receptions for 351 yards.
