The Houston Texans are signing former Ohio State wide receiver Xavier Johnson to be on their practice squad, according to a report from Aaron Wilson of KPRC 2 Houston on Wednesday.

Johnson originally went undrafted, but was signed as a free agent immediately following the conclusion of the draft by the Buffalo Bills. He was then waived by Buffalo after compiling 27 receiving yards on three catches in the preseason.

Now Johnson will head to Houston and look for a chance to make the roster with his former teammate, quarterback C.J. Stroud, who had a great rookie season, throwing for 4,108 yards and 23 touchdowns while leading the Texans to a playoff win over the Cleveland Browns.

He also joins former teammate tight end Cade Stover, who was drafted by the Texans in the fourth round of the NFL draft.

Johnson spent six seasons with the Buckeyes and was one of only three players to be a five-time letter winner due to the extra year of eligibility from COVID-19. He was able to accumulate 26 catches for 329 yards and two touchdowns while adding 353 rushing yards on 44 attempts and another touchdown on the ground. He also spent five of his six seasons in Columbus returning kicks, totaling 601 return yards on 28 attempts.

Now Johnson will look to use that versatility to find a home in Houston.
