As the 2024 Olympics come to an end, former Ohio State wrestler Kyle Snyder will head home from Paris without a medal, falling to Amarali Azarpiar of Iran in the bronze medal match on Sunday morning 4-1.
Snyder was in the 97kg freestyle bracket for Team USA and advanced to the semifinals after beating Awusayiman Habila of China 9-5 and Arturo Silot of Cuba 5-0. In the semifinals, Snyder lost to Akhmed Tazhudinov of Bahrain 6-4, securing a spot in the third-place match.
Snyder left the 2016 Olympics in Rio with a gold medal and the 2020 Olympics in Tokyo with a silver medal. In intenational competition, he has a total of 30 gold medals, six silver and six bronze.
His gold medal in 2016 came while he was wrestling for Ohio State and head coach Tom Ryan during a collegiate career in which he won three straight national titles at heavyweight after taking second place at 197 pounds his freshman year in 2015.
