Former Ole Miss defensive tackle Tywone Malone announced Tuesday that he will be transferring to Ohio State for his remaining three seasons of eligibility.
Malone entered the portal in April after two seasons with the Rebels. He played in just one game during his freshman season but saw action in 13 games this season, totaling 10 tackles, a sack and two pass breakups. His transfer saga saw him visit Miami (Fla.) and Ohio State before selecting the Buckeyes.
Out of high school at Oradell (N.J.) Bergen Catholic, Malone was the No. 63 overall prospect and No. 11 defensive lineman in the 2021 recruiting class, as well as the top-ranked prospect out of New Jersey. He was also a highly touted baseball prospect, viewed as the No. 15 player in New Jersey and No. 25 first baseman in the nation, according to Perfect Game.
He played in seven baseball games for the Rebels last year, collecting four hits, two home runs and four RBI in nine at bats. Prior to entering the transfer portal, he played in six games this season, with one home run in 10 at bats, but he is not expected to play baseball at Ohio State.
Malone offers additional depth at defensive tackle for the Buckeyes, joining a room that will feature Mike Hall Jr., Tyliek Williams, Ty Hamilton and Hero Kanu, among others. He is the second transfer addition this offseason from Ole Miss along with cornerback Davison Igbinosun.
