Ohio State gained an important addition from the transfer portal on Sunday, earning a commitment from former San Diego State offensive tackle Josh Simmons (6-6, 305).
Simmons’ commitment to Ohio State comes after visiting campus over this past weekend. He had previously entered the portal in April after two seasons with the Aztecs and has three years of eligibility remaining for the Buckeyes.
He figures to immediately factor into Ohio State’s battle on the offensive line, where a definitive starting five has yet to be established, even after the conclusion of spring practice. He started all 13 games last season at right tackle for San Diego State, now boasting the most starting experience among the tackles on Ohio State’s roster.
While Josh Fryar is likely to hold down one of the open tackle spots following the departure of Paris Johnson Jr. and Dawand Jones, the other spot – whether at left tackle or right tackle, where Simmons has played thus far in his college career – is up for grabs, with the battle between Zen Michalski and Tegra Tshabola undetermined heading into the summer.
