Four Former Ohio State Baseball Players Make Postseason

Four former Ohio State baseball players qualified for the Minor League Baseball playoffs, potentially continuing their seasons well into September.

The following players made it to the postseason with their respective teams: Jacob Barnwell (Grand Junction Rockies – Rookie Advanced), Dominic Canzone (Hillsboro Hops – Short-Season Class A), Ronnie Dawson (Round Rock Express – Triple-A) and Jalen Washington (Lake Elsinore Storm – Class A Advanced).

Barnwell, a former Buckeye catcher, hit two doubles and scored five runs in 16 games for the Colorado Rockies’ affiliate. Barnwell and Grand Junction will open the Pioneer League South championship series against Ogden on Sept. 8.

Canzone, who was selected in the eighth round by the Arizona Diamondbacks in June, batted .281 with an .853 OPS, tallying 19 doubles, three triples and eight home runs while driving in 38 in 46 games between Missoula and Hillsboro. The Hops began their Northwest League South Division championship series against Salem-Keizer on Sept. 4.

Dawson, who was recently promoted to Triple-A Round Rock, contributed 21 doubles, two triples, 17 long balls and 72 runs scored in 113 games in 2019 between Double-A Corpus Christi and Triple-A Round Rock. The Express opened the Pacific Coast League American Conference championship series against the Iowa Cubs on Sept. 4.

Washington, a member of the San Diego Padres’ organization, notched seven doubles, three triples, four home runs and 27 runs scored in 63 games for Lake Elsinore. The Storm started their California League division finals against Rancho Cucamonga on Sept. 4.
