The Athletic released its preseason All-America teams on Wednesday and Ohio State was heavily featured as it has been in many preaseason acknowledgements this year. The Buckeyes had four players named on the list, the most of any team in college football.
Caleb Downs, Emeka Egbuka, Donovan Jackson and Tyleik Williams were among the 50 players listed. Jackson and Downs were both first team while Egbuka and Williams were named on the second team.
Michigan is close behind the Buckeyes with three selections, each of them on first-team while Georgia, Alabama and Notre Dame each also had three players named.
Ahead of Egbuka were Missouri’s Luther Burden III and Arizona’s Tetairoa McMillan at wide receiver and ahead of Williams were Michigan’s Mason Graham and Kentucky’s Deone Walker at defensive tackle.
In a section about Jackson, The Athletic acknowledged that there are likely more snubs from Ohio State who might deserve to be named on the list.
“(Jackson) returned for his senior season to block for a loaded Ohio State backfield that includes TreVeyon Henderson and Ole Miss transfer Quinshon Judkins, both of whom can be considered snubs from these All-America teams,” the article read.
Denzel Burke could also be viewed as someone who deserved to be named on the list. He was a second-team preseason All-American according to the Walter Camp Football Foundation when they came out with their list in early July.
