Freshman Cornerback Aaron Scott Jr. Sheds Black Stripe

Freshman cornerback Aaron Scott Jr. became an โ€œofficialโ€ member of the Ohio State football team after practice on Tuesday when he lost his black stripe, becoming the 10th freshman to do so this year.

Scott came into Ohio State as a five-star recruit out of Springfield, Ohio, as the No. 36 overall player in the 2024 recruiting class, the No. 6 cornerback and the top-rated player in the state according to 247Sports composite rankings.

Scott has impressed his coaches early on during his time in Columbus, including cornerbacks coach Tim Walton.

โ€œHeโ€™s competitive, coachable has a passion to play the game, wants to learn and has a lot of energy,โ€ Walton said of Scott earlier in August.

Itโ€™s going to be tough for Scott to earn playing time this season in the loaded secondary that the Buckeyes have, but to be able to learn from players who have done it already like Denzel Burke, Davison Igbinosun and Jordan Hancock โ€“ who each return as starters this season โ€“ Scott will be able to take a lot in during the season.

He is competing with Jermaine Mathews Jr. and Calvin Simpson Hunt for playing time at the cornerback position, two players who earned some time as freshmen last season.

He joins wide receiver Jeremiah Smith, quarterback Julian Sayin, safety Jaylen McClain, defensive end Eddrick Houston, running back James Peoples, linebacker Payton Pierce, offensive lineman Ian Moore, safety Leroy Roker and wide receiver Mylan Graham, the other nine freshmen to shed their black stripe.
