Marvin Harrison Jr. and Josh Proctor were selected as Big Ten Players of the Week after Ohio State beat Maryland 37-17 on Oct. 7.
Harrison, who took home Offensive Player of the Week honors tallied eight receptions on 13 targets for 163 yards and a touchdown. Both his receptions and yards were a season high, beating his game against Youngstown State when he had seven catches for 160 yards.
Kyle McCord struggled through most of the first half, but he was able to get out of that slump by targeting Harrison over and over again. The drive they connected for a 58 yard catch and a 19 yard catch on back-to-back plays was the first drive the offense scored points of its own, getting them going into the strong second half.
Proctor led the way on the defense that continues to put together strong performances. He had seven tackles (six solo), 1½ tackles for loss and a 24-yard pick-six in the second quarter of the game that seemingly flipped the momentum that had been fully on the Terrapins side up until that point.
After the game Sonny Styles said how important it is for the Buckeyes to have Josh Proctor on the field since he gives them all confidence.
“You know when they run that ball, he’s flying downhill and going to smack somebody,” he said. “It makes me feel pretty good. I know he’s right there beside me.”
Lathan Ransom earned defensive Big Ten player of the Week against Notre Dame, so that’s two straight weeks which the Buckeyes have been on the field that someone from the secondary took home the award.
