Ohio State accumulated an added set of preseason honors Wednesday, as running backs TreVeyon Henderson and Miyan Williams were named to the 2023 Doak Walker Award Watch list, which honors the nationβs top running back.
The two featured Buckeye tailbacks, who share the list with 14 other players from the Big Ten, are expected to carry the load in the Ohio State backfield after experiencing an up-and-down 2022 season. After rushing for 1,246 yards and 19 touchdowns his freshman season, Henderson experienced a setback in 2022 while dealing with a broken bone in his foot, accumulating just 571 rushing yards with six scores in eight games. Williams missed two games of his own in 2022, but led the Buckeyes in rushing with 824 yards along with a team-high 14 touchdowns.
With Wednesdayβs honor, Henderson and Williams now join a group of 12 Buckeyes who have landed on preseason watch lists this summer.
The two Buckeye backs are joined on that list by fellow offensive teammates Marvin Harrison Jr. and Emeka Egbuka, who earned both Maxwell and Biletnikoff Award preseason honors, along with tight end Cade Stover and offensive linemen Donovan Jackson and Matthew Jones, who were selected to the Macket and Outland Trophy Award watch lists, respectively. Defensive tackle Mike Hall Jr. also received an honor from the Outland trophy, while punter Jesse Micro was named to the Ray Guy Award watch list.
