Buckeye Sports Bulletin covers a lot of Ohio State football news throughout the week. In this article, you will find all the stories we wrote and posted about the Buckeyes matchup with Purdue on Saturday night.
Ohio State head coach Ryan Day spoke with Paul Keels and Jim Lachey on 97.1 The Fan during The Ryan Day Radio Show. Day reflected on Ohio State’s performance against Nebraska and how the Buckeyes are preparing for their matchup with upset-minded Purdue on Saturday.
Ohio State doesn’t exactly have a strong record against true No. 1 receivers this season. Granted, it isn’t exactly an expansive list, but an otherwise improving secondary has not frequently proven up to the task when asked to shut down a strong top receiver. Josh Johnson of Tulsa was the first real candidate of the season for No. 1 cornerback to deal with. Johnson has 51 receptions for 638 yards on the season – not amazing, but good enough to qualify here, and he nabbed eight passes for 149 yards against the Buckeye defense.
When Purdue plays a top-five team, they find a way to win the game. After beating No. 3 Michigan State last weekend, they claimed their 17th victory over an Associated Press Top 25 opponent as an unranked team — no other program has won more than 11.

Ohio State is going to be down one member of its offensive two-deep against Purdue, but it’ll add another crucial member back into its arsenal, per the program’s weekly availability report.
Garrett Wilson caught three touchdown passes and ran for another when No. 4 Ohio State pounded No. 19 Purdue 59-31 at Ohio Stadium on Saturday. Wilson, who missed the Nov. 6 game at Nebraska for an undisclosed reason although several reports said he had a concussion, had scoring receptions of 21 and 12 yards and a TD run of 51 yards as the Buckeyes (9-1, 7-0 Big Ten) rolled to a 45-17 halftime lead.
Before the season started, Chris Olave seemed to be a lock as the best wide receiver in the country. However, Garrett Wilson and Jaxon Smith-Njigba outshined him through the first nine games, causing the senior wideout to take a backseat in the Ohio State offense.
