Ohio State’s 2026 class for its athletics Hall of Fame has been announced by the university, and it is headlined by former Buckeye quarterback J.T. Barrett.
Barrett spent four seasons with Ohio State, getting thrown into the fire as a freshman in 2014 when starter Braxton Miller was injured in the preseason. Barrett led the Buckeyes to an 11-1 regular season, and Ohio State won the national championship that year after Barrett was injured in the win over Michigan.
In his career with the Buckeyes, Barrett started 44 games and set a school record with 38 wins as a quarterback, which included four wins over the Wolverines.
In his four seasons, he set Big Ten records for total offensive yards (12,697), touchdown passes (104) and touchdowns responsible for (147). He also set career records at Ohio State for passing yards (9,434) and rushing yards by a quarterback (3,263).
In the Hall of Fame class of 2026, Barrett is also joined by former women’s cross country and track and field star Katie Borchers (2012-15), Diane Dixon of the women’s track and field team (1983), Jincy Dunne of the women’s hockey team (2017-20), Danielle Meyer of the women’s volleyball team (2004-07), Oyesade Olatoye of the women’s track and field squad (2015-21), Chris Sanders of the men’s track and field and football teams (1992-94), Nick Swisher of the baseball team (2000-02) and Stan White from the football team (1969-71).
Swisher is another big name to be inducted into the hall. After his playing career at Ohio State, he went on to play for 12 years in MLB with five different teams. He spent time with the New York Yankees, the Athletics, Cleveland, the Chicago White Sox and Atlanta Braves. He won a World Series in 2009 with the Yankees.
At Ohio State, Swisher received first-team All-Big Ten honors twice and is still top 10 in program home runs (35), RBI (156) and walks (131).
The university said that details for the official ceremony to honor the inductees will be announced at a later date.
