
True freshman point guard Jaloni Cambridge was named the Tamika Catchings National Freshman of the Week by the U.S. Basketball Writers Association on Tuesday.
Cambridge, who immediately burst onto the scene for the Buckeyes scoring 31 points in their very first game against Cleveland State, had one of her best weeks of the season to earn the national honor.
In three games against Iowa, Indiana and Purdue, Cambridge averaged 22.3 points, 3.7 assists and 3.0 steals per game.
Cambridge’s best performance came during Ohio State’s 86-78 overtime win over Iowa on Feb. 17, when she tallied a team-high 29 points on 8-of-14 shooting, dished out four assists and grabbed three rebounds.
After being Ohio State’s leading scorer with 18 points, in the team’s 71-61 loss to Indiana on Feb. 20, Cambridge helped the Buckeyes bounce back with a 98-46 win over Purdue on Sunday. Cambridge had her eighth 20-point game of the season in the 52-point win.
Cambridge was also named the Big Ten Freshman of the Week on Monday for the third time this season.
