Former Louisville, Indiana and Northern Illinois head coach Lee Corso is ending his 38-year run on ESPN’s College Gameday show, he announced in a statement released by ESPN.
“My family and I will be forever indebted for the opportunity to be part of ESPN and College GameDay for nearly 40 years,” Corso said. “I have a treasure of many friends, fond memories and some unusual experiences to take with me into retirement.”
The former Hoosier head coach was most well-known for his mascot headgear prediction, which would close the College Gameday show. In his first-ever headgear prediction, Corso donned the Brutus the Buckeye mascot head when he picked Ohio State to defeat Penn State on Oct. 5, 1996.
During his 38-year tenure on College Gameday, Corso has picked Ohio State a record 45 times. In those games, Ohio State has gone 30-15.
Corso — age 90 — will make his final appearance on College Gameday in week one of the college football season. It’s possible the Gameday site will be in Columbus for Ohio State’s matchup with Texas.
