Micah Potter Joins Wisconsin Basketball Program

Just more than a month after transferring from Ohio State, it was announced that Micah Potter would be staying in the Big Ten and joining Greg Gard’s Wisconsin program.

Potter took visits to Madison, Wis. and Vanderbilt before deciding on the Badgers. The Mentor, Ohio product has two years of eligibility remaining and is set to enroll at Wisconsin in January.

“I have no bad blood with Coach Holtmann or Ohio State or anything like that,” Potter said in the official statement from Wisconsin. “I just wasn’t maximizing my potential, I wasn’t maximizing my potential because I wasn’t fitting, and I wasn’t playing well. I was performing only in flashes. The style of play was not what fits my skill set.”

A member of the 2016  recruiting class, Potter played his freshman year under Thad Matta. He was relegated to a role off the bench last season under Chris Holtmann after the emergence of freshman Kaleb Wesson.

Potter started 16 games in two seasons at Ohio State, averaging 4.1 points and 2.8 rebounds as a Buckeye. Ohio State announced his transfer from Columbus on Nov. 5,  just two days before the 2018-19 season opener against Cincinnati. The announcement came after Potter scored a team-high 13 points in an exhibition win over UNC-Pembroke on Nov. 1.

Ohio State is set to play Wisconsin just once this season in the regular season finale in Columbus on March 10. It is unlikely Potter would make the trip as ineligible players do not usually travel with the team for road games. Because he is set to enroll in January, Potter will likely be eligible to play for the Badgers following the first semester of the 2019-2020 season.
