When the U.S. Open tees off in North Carolina this weekend, two Ohio State golfers will be competing in the event after making it to the NCAA semifinals in their senior season.
Both Maxwell Moldovan and Neal Shipley will play in the 124th U.S. Open at Pinehurst No. 2 – a par 70 course – that begins on Thursday.
This is Moldovan’s third time playing in the event already after he qualified this time as an alternate from the qualifier he played in Springfield, Ohio. In his first tournament, he missed the cut but improved the year after in 2023 when he made the cut in Los Angeles, finishing 65th overall.
For Shipley, this will be his first U.S. Open after he qualified by finishing top two in the U.S. Amateur last year, and after he gained notoriety by winning the Silver Cup at The Master’s earlier this spring which is awarded to the lowest-scoring amateur to make the cut.
The event begins at 6:30 a.m. on Thursday and goes through Sunday and will be broadcast on USA, Peacock and NBC.
