Multiple Outlets Report That TC Caffey Suffered Knee Injury, May Miss 2024 Season

According to reports from Bucknuts’ Dave Biddle and Eleven Warriors’ Dan Hope, Ohio State running back TC Caffey suffered a knee injury that could threaten to keep him out for the 2024 season. This comes after head coach Ryan Day said that he believed Caffey could be an important contributor this season.

“The other guy who’s been very, very good in there and I think is going to play for us and get carries for us is TC Caffey,” Day said. “He’s done a very good job, he’s very disciplined in his approach and he’s a guy that can really bring value for us.”

Hope reported that Caffey was seen helping at the Special Skills Camp at the Woody Hayes Athletic Center on Friday wearing a brace and a sleeve on his right knee. When Biddle reached out to Ohio State a spokesperson at the school said they were “not going to comment on injury situations.” Buckeye Sports Bulletin reached out to Ohio State and didn’t receive a response.

Caffey was expected to battle for the third spot in the running back rotation behind TreVeyon Henderson and Quinshon Judkins. He would have been competing with freshmen James Peoples and Sam Williams-Dixon for playing time.

Caffey first broke onto the scene in 2022 as a true freshman when he ran for a 49-yard touchdown late in the blowout over Toledo, but he suffered an ACL tear later that season and wasn’t featured in the Buckeyes’ backfield in the 2023 season. He had been looking forward to contributing this season.

“I put in work,” Caffey said in the spring. “We’ve got this saying in the running back room, and that’s keep stacking days. That’s what I’ve been trying to do, try to build myself for the team that can contribute and bring a good part to the team.”

Day floated the idea that, if needed, the Buckeyes could opt to use sophomore safety Caleb Downs at running back, but that likely won’t be needed quite yet with still four possible contributors on scholarship at the position.
