Meechie Johnson Jr. will be joining the Buckeyes a year earlier than expected.
The talented combo guard announced he will reclassify from the 2021 recruiting class to 2020, joining the team this fall.
With Ohio State’s need for depth at the guard position growing even more following the news that Abel Porter was ruled medically unable to participate, bringing in Johnson ahead of schedule is a massive move for the program.
A four-star point guard, Johnson was the No. 76 overall prospect nationally and the No. 2 prospect in Ohio, behind only fellow commit Malaki Branham.
Johnson was the No. 14 point guard in the country, and his presence is expected to take the Buckeye backcourt to another level. C.J. Walker and Duane Washington Jr. are the returning guards, with Bucknell transfer Jimmy Sotos providing depth after his waiver for immediate eligibility was approved by the NCAA.
Buckeye Sports Bulletin will have an interview with Johnson and expand on this story with quotes.
