Ohio State All-American Guard Wyatt Davis Working To Play For Buckeyes This Season

Ohio State guard Wyatt Davis, after announcing on Sept. 11 that he would be opting out of the football season in order to declare for the 2021 NFL Draft, announced on Wednesday that he is attempting to opt back in and play for the Buckeyes in the upcoming season.

“I want Buckeye Nation to know that I want to play this season for Ohio State and I am working now to make that a reality,” Davis wrote in the statement. “Thank you for the support. Go Buckeyes.”

Davis initially opted out prior to the Big Ten’s decision Wednesday to reinstate the football season, which will now start the weekend of Oct. 23-24 and will go for eight regular season games, with a Big Ten championship week that will end on Dec. 19, one day before the selection of the College Football Playoff.

Following his first full season as a collegiate starter, Davis was named an All-American for his efforts in 2019 as part of an offensive line that was nominated for the Joe Moore Award. This season, he was named a team captain and was listed as a First Team Preseason All-American.

Davis’ decision to opt out came three days before cornerback Shaun Wade’s decision to do the same. Wade said on ESPN Wednesday that he has not yet made a decision and is celebrating his birthday today instead.
