Ohio State Comes In At No. 2 In First College Football Playoff Rankings

In the first 12-team version of the College Football Playoff rankings, Ohio State was ranked as the No. 2 team in the country, coming in behind No. 1 Oregon and No. 2 Georgia.

The Buckeyes were one spot higher in the CFP rankings than they were in the AP top 25 that was released on Sunday, although they would still have to play in the first round since the Power Four conference champions get the four byes and Oregon is the one team ahead of them.

The four teams getting the byes would be Oregon, Georgia, No. 4 Miami (Fla.) and No. 9 BYU, the Hurricanes and the Cougars having the upper hand at the final two byes in the first round since they are currently the top-ranked teams in the ACC and Big 12.

The Buckeyes and the Ducks were joined by No. 8 Indiana and No. 6 Penn State in the Big Ten after Ohio State beat the Nittany Lions 20-13 on Saturday, spoiling their undefeated regular season record.

Rounding out the top 12 are No. 5 Texas, No. 7 Tennessee, No. 10 Notre Dame, No. 11 Alabama and No. 12 Boise State, which would be the Buckeyes matchup at Ohio Stadium in this version of the rankings.

The two teams that just missed the top 12 are No. 13 SMU and No. 14 Texas A&M.

There are still four regular season weeks to go along with the conference championship week until the College Football Playoff rankings are finalized.
